Player Breaks Leg
Jamie
Sluggett was taken to hospital after breaking his leg shortly before
half-time in the match between North Molton and Shebbear. The ambulance was
called immediately after Jamie went down following a fairly innocuous
challenge from one of the home players After arriving at Barnstaple A&E
it was discovered that his break was not
straightforward and was taken to theatre shortly after being
admitted. Everyone connected with the football club sends Jamie their
good wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery . |

Letter from a
Shebbear Old boy;
Well done to everyone
connected with the club - players, management, committee and
supporters. No Shebbear team has ever reached the Devon Intermediate
cup final before, and it seems a surfeit of games towards the end of
the season, weakened your efforts to win the league title. You did
finally beat your nemesis Grosvenor in the League Cup. So one cup,
two runners medals is better than the "great" teams of the late
forties, early sixties and when Eric Hayler was captain. With a
little bit of luck, you could have set a fantastic record never to
be beaten.
Wishing you all a good summer
break, and then on to Division 1 next season. When we got promotion
in 1962/3, we found the higher division was easier, in a football
sense, to play in than the basement division, which was more kick
and rush. This sounds like our rallying call, from dear old Kate
Osborne - Kick'n hard dear!! So with a nucleus of the same players,
you can go on to greater things.
With best wishes,
Don (Hatherley)
